About this coffee:

Cooperativa Integral Agrícola Chicoj is a cooperative of producers from the Chicoj area in the Cobán coffee-growing region of Guatemala. The cooperative and its members began growing coffee more than 40 years ago to supply the regional coop FEDECOVERA, and to obtain better market access and pricing together.

The producer members participate voluntarily to contribute to the cooperative, which then processes the coffee and provides other resources to its members. The farms where the members grow coffee are owned by the cooperative.

Cobán is known for being cold, cloudy, and rainy year-round. If they say the rain is letting up, it means it's still drizzling. The mountains of Cobán are known for “chipi-chipi," an incessant light mist. It's under this mist that much of the coffee is grown. The region has a rainforested climate created by the Atlantic. Coffee grows at humid, high elevations in limestone and clay soils.
